Precaution

Chronic topical corticosteroid therapy may interfere with growth and development in children.\r\n\r\nLactation: It is not known whether topical corticosteroid use could result in sufficient systemic absorption to produce detectable quantities in human milk; use with caution.

Side Effect

Dermal atrophy, local irritation, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, burning, dry skin, pigmentation changes, HPA suppression (with higher potency used >2 wk)

Pregnancy Category Note

The Pregnancy Category for Betamethasone Valerate 0.05% is generally classified as Category C by the US FDA.

Pregnancy Category C: Studies in animals have shown that topical corticosteroids can cause birth defects (teratogenic effects) when absorbed in large amounts. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Therefore, Betamethasone Valerate should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It should not be used in large amounts or for long periods on pregnant patients.

First Trimester: Avoid use during the first three months unless absolutely necessary.

Consultation: Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive before using this cream.
